The surgery is open 8.00am - 6.30pm Monday to Friday and patients are seen by appointment. The telephone is often busy early in the morning, so if your call is routine, please ring later in the day.
The current appointment system allows patients to access a doctor or nurse on the day they wish to be seen or by booking in advance. This has removed the waiting time altogether and means that far less appointments are lost to people not attending each week.
Phone on the day you need to be seen
With almost 7000 patients and the equivalent of 4 full time doctors, demand for appointments is enormous. When you phone the surgery you will have the following options:
50% of our doctors appointments are available to book ‘on the day’ so that you do not have to plan your visit to the surgery weeks in advance. At times of high demand you may be given an appointment on the day following your call.
50% of our doctors appointments are available to be booked up to two weeks in advance. All of the nurses appointments are available to be booked up to two months in advance.
Please note if you feel your problem is CLINICALLY URGENT tell the receptionist and you will be fitted in that day. Please note that if all routine appointments have been allocated you will be seen by the Duty Doctor of the day who may not be your usual doctor.
Please bear in mind that the busiest time of the week is on Monday morning. If your problem is not urgent it would be helpful if you would choose another time or day to telephone. The telephones and reception desk may be busy when you call, please be patient, we will help you as soon as possible. If you are unable to keep your appointment please remember to let us know so that someone else can be seen.

You can help us by trying to use the right sort of appointment.
This is made like an ordinary appointment but instead of having to come to the surgery the doctor rings you at a prearranged time. If you feel you will need to be examined, this appointment type is not appropriate. However, if after a telephone consultation your doctor feels an examination is needed, an appointment will then be arranged. You may also be offered a follow-up telephone consultation. It has been found that many people find this new service convenient to use.

Appointments for the Mental Health Team are all booked in advance.
If you have a question about your medication or treatment or need health or travel advice, ask to speak to the nurse. If you are unsure whether you need a doctor appointment, the nurse will be able to advise you.
If you would like a routine appointment outside of normal surgery hours you can access the Extended Hours service based at ground floor of 1829 Building, Countess of Chester Health Park where appointments are available 6.30 – 8pm Monday to Friday & 10am-12noon on Saturday mornings.
These appointments can be booked up to two weeks in advance. We can book this for you and let you know when your appointment is or you can call the Extended Hours service direct to arrange this yourself if that is more convenient on 01244 385422.
They may also be able to offer you an appointment at one of the other centres in Ellesmere Port, Helsby or Tattenhall if St. Martin’s clinic is not convenient for you.
Local participating pharmacies now offer a minor ailments service which includes colds, coughs, diarrhoea, fever, flu head lice, oral thrush in infants, pain, simple urinary tract infections in women, sore throats, superficial eye infections, vaginal thrush, vomiting and worms.
